Little Burma

Mae Sot / Umphien – refugee camp -Thailand – 2010

Around Mae Sot – a boundary town located in Thailand, 6 km from Burma – the region has been transformed into a camp for illegal refugees. Burmese were forced to leave their country for political as well as economical reasons.

Within few dozen kilometers, we can find 7 such camps – which are testimony to the tragedy of Burmese Karen – mainly – a persecuted minority for more than 35 years by the ruling military junta.

This project presents the daily life in one of these camps – Umphien.
